The big, colorful ALDI sign was installed Thursday over the entrance at the supermarket chain’s newest location in the Broadlands Village Center. The fences have also come down around the site and we got our first good look inside.
People who’ve shopped at ALDI before won’t be surprised, but the footprint of the store is significantly smaller than the Safeway that was there previously.
Newbies also may be surprised by the shopping cart situation. Yes, ALDI has carts, but they are all chained and locked together. You have to deposit a quarter into the little box on the cart in order to free it. When you’re done shopping and return your cart to its proper spot, you get your quarter back.
As The Burn first reported last week, Ashburn’s new ALDI store holds its grand opening this coming Thursday, Nov. 9. at 7:50 a.m.
