SONIC DRIVE-IN OPENING FIRST NOVA LOCATION IN MANASSAS

The new store will be the closest to Ashburn — roughly 25 minutes away.

Yes, we’re is doing a story about Manassas, but it’s Sonic!

The Burn has confirmed that the very first Sonic Drive-In location in the Northern Virginia will be opening in Manassas. Local media started buzzing about it and we contacted Sonic’s corporate HQ where they confirmed the news. Advertisements seeking a store manager for Manassas have started appearing on job sites and a company spokesperson says they hope to open by the end of the year.

The popular brand will be taking over a vacant Burger King location at 10850 Promenade Lane, near the intersection of Balls Ford Road and Sudley Road. That’s about 20-30 minutes from the center of Ashburn, depending on traffic and route.

Loudoun County residents have been hoping and wishing for a Sonic to be built here for years. It’s been one of the top questions from readers of The Burn. A couple of years ago, rumors swirled that one was coming to Old Ox Road in Sterling, but that turned out not to be true. But with the news of a Manassas location, the brand has finally entered into the Northern Virginia metro area, meaning future locations in the market are almost a certainty.

The Oklahoma-based company has more than 3,500 locations around the country. It’s famous for its tater tots, its shakes, even the ice in the beverages. The particular type of pellet ice is often called “Sonic ice” in the restaurant industry. The closest Sonics to Loudoun currently are in Frederick, Md., Winchester and Fredericksburg.

A little bit of home (I’m from down south) is now a little bit closer. Come on, Sonic… I know a nice spot right here in the Burn where you can park a store. 🙂

    Finally.

I remember a few years back Sonic started aggressively advertising in the DC area, lots of radio ads. At the time I thought they must be planning a rapid expansion into the area but that never happened.
