Pier 1 will close Sterling store

The move is part of roughly 450 locations being shuttered around the country.

The Pier 1 Imports store in the Sterling will be closing permanently. An employee at the store confirmed the news to The Burn. An exact date for the closure has yet to be announced.

Earlier this week, the popular home decor retailer, announced that it would be closing up to 450 of its Pier 1 locations across the country. That’s roughly half of all their retail stores. According to national news reports, the brand has been struggling to draw customers both in person and online.

The Sterling location, located in the Cascades Marketplace shopping center, has been advertising a storewide clearance sale as part of the efforts to reduce stock in preparation for closing.

The move will be the latest blow to the shopping center, which has seen the departure of the Corner Bakery restaurant, the Boston Market restaurant, the Famous Dave’s BBQ restaurant, the Staples office store and others in recent years.

For Pier 1 fans, the good news is that the brand’s other location in Loudoun County has been spared from the cut list. We’re told the Pier 1 store on East Market Street in Leesburg is staying open.
