At long last, work on the future Shops at Russell Branch has gotten underway. The new shopping center is coming to Leesburg. It will be built at the intersection of Battlefield Parkway and Russell Branch Parkway, in front of the Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
Site work has started recently. That’s where the mighty machines — bulldozers, backhoes, etc. — come in and prepare the property — remove foliage, clear the ground, put in underground utility links, etc. When that process is done, the construction crews will start “going vertical” meaning foundations will be poured and buildings will begin going up.
As The Burn has reported in previous stories, the Shops at Russell Branch will be anchored by a 22,000 s.f. ALDI grocery store. There will also be an Exxon gas station and convenience store and a Virginia Auto & Tire car shop. The plans also reportedly call for a BriteWash car wash. There are several other buildings planned for additional retail tenants, but the developers have not announced any additional new businesses yet.
Wouldn’t it be fabulous if some developer took an interest in the decaying part of downtown Leesburg from the historic village eastbound on Market Street to the 7 bypass intersection?
