Burning Questions

Burning Question: What are they building across from the Dulles Town Center?

A reader wants to know what’s behind the huge Sterling construction site.

Question: I wondered if you have any idea what is being built just across Atlantic Boulevard from the Dulles Town Center in Sterling? — Jose V.

Answer: Thanks for asking, Jose. We actually get this question once or twice a a week right now because everyone is seeing the construction.

The works that is going on west of Atlantic Boulevard and north of Nokes Boulevard between the mall and State Road 28 is a new data center campus from a company called EdgeCore. There will eventually be five buildings  that will include 720,000 s.f. of data center space, as seen in the graphic below.

Data Centers….more! And at Dulles Town Center, that’s too bad to hear. First comes Data Centers, then come Power Lines. Waiting for news to break that the empty Moorefield Area by Ashburn Metro Station will now be 3M+ sq ft of data centers.

Just what we need: more data centers! How many does that now make for Sterling/Ashburn? The number 72 has been mentioned for several years now. That’s obviously an outdated number.

Lol. That is expected. Wherever there is large empty land parcel….some data center has to pop up.

Not a very attractive sight in front of a mall, in my books.

What’s going in next to the Sterling Costco?

Are you referring to the Bojangles location across the street? Or something else? We’ve reported on the new Bojangles extensively.

Land is being cleared right next to Sterling Costco’s truck/back entrance.

The data centers pay hefty taxes and help to pay for many of our nice roads and of course the extensive power grid that they need to stay in business. When data centers become replaced somewhere down the road, all of this tax feasting will come to a halt and this county will really be stressed financially.

I was not surprised. That was my guess exactly. You can tell by the large walls. Ashburn is full of them
