Construction continues at the new Riverside Square shopping center in Ashburn on the north side of Route 7. The latest project to get underway is a new Sheetz gas station and convenience store. A fence is up around the property and site work has started.

As most local residents know, Riverside Square is the new center going up along Riverside Parkway near the intersection with Ashburn Village Boulevard. The project is anchored by a Texas Roadhouse restaurant that opened last June. Since then, a Sola Salons, a Mattress Warehouse and the brand new Black Hog BBQ have all opened.

But passers-by have been intrigued by the other projects they can see at the center. Among the new construction — a new child care center and the work on the new Sheetz. Next door, a long, large building is also under construction. This is a related, but separate development called Lexington 7. We’ve heard rumors of possible tenants there, but nothing confirmed so far.

Other future tenants at Riverside Square include a yet-to-be-built Burger King, a nail salon and the Oak Health Club, a new fitness center. The center is kind of out of the way at the moment, but Riverside Parkway is being extended all the way to Loudoun County Parkway, and is expected to dramatically increase traffic past the new center when the road opens this coming fall.
