Work begins on new Burger King location in Ashburn

It is being built in the Riverside Square shopping plaza, next door to a Sheetz convenience store.

Work is underway on a new Burger King location in Ashburn. The property has been fenced off. A “coming soon” banner has been hung. And crews with earth movers have started prepping the site.

The Burger King is coming to the Riverside Square shopping center on the north side of Route 7, just a couple of blocks the Ashburn Village intersection. Riverside Square sits along Riverside Parkway, which is under construction and will soon connect to Loudoun County Parkway. Once that connection goes through, traffic is expected to increase quite a bit — thus the reason for the new shopping center.

The drive-thru restaurant will sit right next to a new Sheetz gas station and convenience store that is under construction and getting close to opening. Other neighboring tenants in the shopping center include Texas Roadhouse, Black Hog BBQ, Mattress Warehouse, Sola Salon Studios, Nails at Tiffany’s, and the Oak Health Club.

The new Burger King will be somewhat of a rarity in the area. Leesburg has one BK, Ashburn has one other BK, and Sterling/Dulles has two locations. That’s far fewer than many other major national brands. The Burn first told readers about the new Riverside Square location last August. No word yet on a target opening for the restaurant.

That sure is surprising, considering the brand hasn’t grown much lately. I hope Burger King comes down to the Southern Loudoun area someday.
