Harris Teeter reduces store hours due to labor shortage

A significant change coming to the local grocery store scene as Harris Teeters across Northern Virginia and the country announce they will start closing earlier. Company officials say the change is due — in part — to an ongoing shortage in the labor force in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday September 15, all Harris Teeters will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. That 9 p.m. closure is two hours earlier than the previous 11 p.m. closing time for most area stores.

Harris Teeter deli counters will now close at 8 p.m. as will meat and seafood counters. Stores that have sushi, pizza and sandwich service will see those end at 7 p.m.

The brand is saying the new hours are temporary. They go into effect tomorrow until further notice. And the change is for all Harris Teeter locations nationwide. Harris Teeter operates stores in DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina and here in Virginia.
