Big news on the local restaurant scene — one of Ashburn’s oldest and most well-known restaurants has been sold to new owners. The deal selling Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque was finalized just this morning.

The good news is — we’re told to expect very little change to start with. Danny Hurdle, the longtime owner of Carolina Brothers, is retiring — but he’s agreed to keep his hand in and help out at the store during the transition and possibly beyond.
The new owners are the Goreys, a local family whose kids, along with other relatives, have worked at Carolina Brothers during their high school and college years. So the family knows the restaurant and how it operates.
Plans for the future are still being considered, but it sounds like the new owners hope to get a beer and wine ABC license in order to carry local craft beers and wines. Expanding the outside seating is another possibility.

As far as the menu — which focuses on pork, beef and chicken BBQ sandwiches and baby back ribs — we’re told to expect it to stay the same for the short term, but new dishes and specials will likely happen down the line.
Carolina Brothers dates back to 1988 and, in those early years, Hurdle focused on catering primarily. He took over the historic building — once the Partlow Bros. general store — on Ashburn Road about 17 years ago and started operating as a full-fledged restaurant.
Congrats to Danny on the on the long career and enjoy your retirement!
If not kept consistent this place will suffer.
Their BBQ wasn’t really all that great in my opinion. The pulled pork and chicken sandwiches were dry and over priced. I hope the new owners correct this issue.
Keep the green beans exactly the same!
I live walking distance from the place. I go there about once per year and I’m reminded each time of why I’m not going there that often. It’s not particularly cheap and food doesn’t taste particularly good even when I’m hungry. I hope the new owner fixes this. I’ll certainly give it another spin within the next month or two
