The Metropolitan Washington Airports has announced a new international destination. Starting in June, local passengers will be able to fly non-stop from Dulles International to Calgary, Canada for the first time ever.
The flights will be with an airline called WestJet. WestJet is Canada’s second-largest airline and it is actually based in Calgary.
The new flights start on June 2 and will initially run three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — through at least October. Passengers on the new route will travel on Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
“Calgary will become the 60th international destination from Washington Dulles, and WestJet will be our 40th air carrier,” said Chryssa Westerlund, Airports Authority executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “We are thrilled to welcome WestJet to Dulles and to provide customers this new link between Western Canada and Washington.”
Calgary is the third-largest city in Canada with a population of roughly 1.4 million. It sits roughly 50 miles from the start of the famed Canadian Rockies.
This is great news! I have a friend in Calgary that would love to come on a direct flight. Will you be able to take dogs as extra baggage?
