Something is afoot at the Rubino’s Pizzeria restaurant in the Broadlands in Ashburn — and employees say it’s going to be a new sports bar.
Construction-related permits are hanging by the Rubino’s front door and inside, they have added a new walk-in cooler to the rear right corner of the large, 4,800 s.f. space.
According to employees the work is part of the new sports bar.
That doesn’t mean the pizza joint is going away. Both will apparently co-exist, but how the space will be divided up, whether the bar will have a different name or if it will have a separate entrance — all remain TBA.
The Broadlands Rubino’s is in the the shopping center sometimes called Southern Walk Plaza. It’s a couple of doors down from Blend Coffee Bar and across the parking lot from the McDonald’s.
It’s one of two Rubino’s Pizzeria locations in Ashburn. The Rubino family also owns the three Filling Co. convenience store/gas stations in Ashburn.
We have messages in to the Rubinos and the landlord for more details on the sports bar plans.
The news that Rubino’s is making a change isn’t completely surprising. We spoke with co-owner Steve Rubino more than a year ago and — at that time — he hinted that he was considering repurposing part of the space.
No official timeline yet. All we’ve been told regarding an opening is hopefully by the end of the year.
