One of the biggest sporting events of the year is coming to Washington, D.C. and local fans will have the chance to take part in it like never before. We’re talking about the upcoming 2023 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target and a week’s worth of exciting events surrounding it.
The All-Star Game itself is taking place at Audi Field on Wednesday, July 19 at 8 p.m. This is when the top players from across MLS come together and join forces to take on a worthy challenger. This year it’s the lads from Arsenal — one of the top-ranked teams in the English Premier League.
“I’ve had a front row seat to watch the growth and development of Major League Soccer, first as a player and now as a manager,” said Wayne Rooney, the head coach for D.C. United and this year’s All-Star team coach. “The opportunity to lead the best our league has to offer against a top Premier League club like Arsenal will be a highlight for me personally and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in D.C.”
Fans will also want to turn out to Audi Field the night before the big match — that’s when the All-Star team will take on Arsenal in the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T 5G. Ten players from each team will compete in the ultimate tests of skill including the Shooting Challenge, the Touch Challenge, the Cross & Volley Challenge, the Passing Challenge, and the Crossbar Challenge. Even better, each team will be competing for charity — part of a commitment from both sides to make positive change happen in local communities.
The 2023 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge takes place on Tuesday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The Skills Challenge and the All-Star Game itself will be no walk in the park for our MLS All-Stars. Arsenal is one of the most decorated clubs in the world, having won 13 league titles and a record 14 FA Cups. This year’s All-Star Game will be a rematch of the 2016 MLS All-Star Game when Arsenal scored a late goal to win 2-1.
Other events that are part of the celebrations include two nights of the All-Star Soccer Celebration presented by Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, followed by the MLS All-Star Concert presented by Target at The Wharf in D.C., an All-Star Day of Service when fans have a chance to work hand-in-hand with MLS to give back to the community, and the MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by All-State where more than 40 of the best young players in North America will compete in a match at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
