Buzz is swirling that a well-known reality TV show has had camera crews in Ashburn in recent weeks, recording material for an upcoming season or series.
Apparently the Lifetime cable show “Dance Moms” may be returning to the airwaves and could be featuring the Studio Bleu Dance Center on Ashburn Road.
“Dance Moms” was a television show that aired on the Lifetime for eight seasons — from 2011 to 2019. With all the accompanying drama and thrills, it followed a competitive dance studio, the woman who ran the studio, her young student dancers, and the moms that supported them.
Locally, everyone is being tight-lipped, but here is what we know so far. Rumors about “Dance Moms” coming to Ashburn started swirling on the internet last summer, but that’s all they were at the time — rumors.
Then this week The Burn received a tip that video production crews were in Ashburn over the past month recording new “Dance Moms” material at Studio Bleu.
We stopped in at Studio Bleu to ask about the rumors, and were told they can’t disclose anything. We also reached out to several local residents involved in the dance studio and most declined to comment.
The Burn also spoke with people who work in the same retail center where Studio Bleu is located and they confirmed they had seen professional camera crews at the studio.
If you’re not familiar with the world of dance and competitive dance, Studio Bleu is kind of a big deal. As far back as 2011, the Washington Post was reporting how the studio had been ranked No. 3 in the nation for competitive dance studios.
Dancers from Studio Bleu have performed at Disney World, in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and other high profile venues.
Bottom line — it’s unclear what precisely is happening, but it sure sounds like Studio Bleu Dance Center has something interesting in the works. We’ll hopefully find out more soon.
