A artisan ice cream company is planning to open its first retail ice cream shop and cafe in Ashburn. It’s called Authors Best Selling Ice Creams and they hope to be ready for customers this spring.
The brand was born during the pandemic when the owners started making personalized ice cream flavors at home. This led to a commercial kitchen and a spot at various farmers markets in Northern Virginia.
The company was previously known as Doughboy Creamery, but last summer, it rebranded as Authors Best Selling Ice Creams.
Now comes word that they will be opening a production facility and retail shop in the University Center in Ashburn. That’s on the north side of Route 7 off George Washington Boulevard. It’s the same center with Taco Zocalo, the Fountain Grill, Wicket Door Pub, and the Potomac Taphouse.
Besides making their ice cream there, the Authors team will have an ice cream shop and coffee house open to the public.
They will serve up their small-batch premium ice cream as well as espresso drinks, drip coffee, pastries, and even some light “lunch” style options. There will be a dine-in area or customers can get items to go.
Some of the ice cream flavors currently on the Authors menu include Apple Cinnamon Crunch, Lemon Raspberry, Salted Caramel, and Santa’s Milk & Cookies. You can see the full flavors list here.
Authors is also hoping to get involved in some of the local Loudoun County farmers markets, including the One Loudoun market just across the highway.
No firm date has been set yet for opening, but they are currently targeting sometime in March if all goes smoothly.
