Amongst all the many things announced for the Cascades Marketplace shopping center — one development has gotten overlooked. The planned move of the center’s Starbucks coffee shop.
Currently, the Starbucks at the plaza doesn’t have a drive-thru. It’s in a row of retail shops, on the end, but there’s no drive up lane. But they plan to fix that.
According to the landlord, the Starbucks will be moving from its current location a few hundred feet away to a former bank building which will be turned into a new Starbucks — with a drive-thru.
Adding drive-thru lanes has been a major push by the coffee shop brand. Multiple local Starbucks in Northern Virginia have moved locations or been rebuilt in order to give customers the opportunity to pull up, place their order, and pick up their coffee all from the comforts of their car or truck.
There’s no announced timeline for the Starbucks to make its move — and last we checked, the construction on the new building hadn’t started.
Nevertheless, this is just the latest in a series of big changes announced for the center. Besides Starbucks moving, a Shake Shack, a Taco Bamba, and a Chiko restaurant are all in the works for the center.
Several more spaces are expected to be leased soon. Meanwhile, a portion of the property that was previously retail has been earmarked for future residential housing.
