Burning Question: What is happening with the Lidl that we were told was going in at the corner of Braddock and Gum Spring? Has Lidl pulled out? I hope not. I was really looking forward to a better grocery store without having to drive all the way to Chantilly. Thanks for always keeping us up to date. — Nicole O.
Hi Nicole. Sometimes, there can be a plan for a parcel of land, but the owners may not intend to actually move on it for years. Other times, things like rezoning issues, changes in the economy, and even a pandemic can alter or slow down plans.
In the case of the Lidl planned for the Whitman Farms property — at Braddock Road and Gum Spring Road — we just don’t know. But Dulles District Supervisor Matt Letourneau addressed this last Monday at his town hall meeting.
Letourneau said he doesn’t have any new information on or timeline for the plans for the Lidl there, but he confirmed Lidl actually owns a big piece of land in that development where the company is planning a future store.
The property is already home to a Dunkin’ donut shop, a pizza joint, and a tea shop. A Sheetz convenience store and gas station is under construction.
The Burn reached out to a Lidl spokesperson for an update on the Braddock Road/Gum Spring Road store as well as plans for a Lidl in Leesburg at Tuscarora Village off Battlefield Parkway SE.
“Both of those stores are in our long-term plan, but we do not yet have any opening dates,” said Aimee Campbell, the Director of Corporate Affairs for Lidl in the U.S.
So, there you go. The good news is the location in south Loudoun is still on the books. The bad news is — no update on when it will move forward.
