Confirmed: Target exploring new store in Loudoun

New information today that the Minnesota-based Target corporation continues to explore Loudoun County — and specifically the South Riding area — for a new Target department store.

Regular readers will remember our first report from last August (read it here) when we pieced together clues found online that indicated a Target store could be in the works for the long-proposed Arcola Center retail development.

The other anchor store at the site is reportedly going to be a Kohl’s department store last we heard.

A proposed plan for The Shops at Arcola Center that included a 148,000 s.f. building that could be a future Target store.

The Shops at the Arcola Center is supposed to be built off Loudoun County Parkway, just north of the Dulles Landing shopping center where the Walmart Supercenter is located.

Now, a zoning verification request letter has been filed with Loudoun County that clearly states there is a proposal to build a Target store on the site.

The letter reads, in part, “current use of the Subject Property: vacant land” and “proposed future use: Target.”

Now as far as county records indicate, this is still in the discussion/research stage. Target appears to be doing its due diligence before it commits to the project and/or starts construction.

But this marks the first time that we’re aware of that we’ve seen the name Target attached to the Arcola Center project in an official document.
