New fried chicken restaurant pops up in Ashburn, Herndon

We’ve got some interesting — and slightly convoluted restaurant news — that involves fried chicken. A new chicken place called Nash & Smash has sprung up quietly in Ashburn and in Herndon.

Regular readers may recall that back in January, we told you about the Nash & Smash brand serving smash burgers and fried chicken that was supposed to be coming to the two communities. We didn’t have many details at the time.

Well, it turns out it’s here. For the Ashburn location, it’s not a stand-alone restaurant. Rather, it has opened inside the Original Peri-Peri restaurant in the Broadlands Village Center. That’s the same center where Bruster’s Real Ice Cream and Parallel Wine & Whiskey Bar are located.

Staff members explained the Nash & Smash concept is coming from the same ownership group as Original Peri-Peri. So it makes economic sense for them to share a space.

We’re told right now — the fried chicken and chicken sandwiches are the main Nash & Smash items that have been added to the menu, but smash burgers and other items will be phased in in the coming weeks.

Locally, Nash & Smash also has a location in Herndon, operating out of the Spice Village restaurant in the Village Center at Dulles, as well as a stand-alone location in Manassas.

Bottom line — as Northern Virginia’s leading source for fried chicken news — the headline here is that a new fried chicken place has opened in Ashburn as well as in Herndon. We’ll do some taste testing soon and report back.
