Change coming to the downtown Leesburg coffee scene

Some big news this morning for denizens of the downtown Leesburg coffeehouse scene. The longtime shop King Street Coffee is moving out and a new coffee shop is on its way in.

The owner of King Street Coffee — which opened back around 2010 at 110 South King Street — posted the news on social media.

“It is with heavy heart that I am announcing the closure of King Street Coffee at this location,” owner Abbie Whitehurst wrote.

She goes on to share some unhappy details about the decision: “I never wanted King St to close and had no idea it ever would. I have worked so hard to make sure it stayed open 363 days/year for you…” You can read Whitehurst’s full statement on Facebook here.

The new coffee shop coming to the spot will be called Second Nature Coffee Co. It’s coming from a local restaurant team you might be familiar with — the folks behind the popular Buffalo Wing Factory brand, which has five area locations.

“We have appreciated this downtown business for many years — and love the small town, eclectic feel of the place. That definitely will not be changing,” BWF veep Nikki Sicilian told The Burn.

Sicilian says the intention is to keep the same coffee vendors and to retain the same staff as King Street Coffee.

If things go well, they may one day look to expand the Second Nature brand elsewhere in Northern Virginia.

As far as timing, Whitehurst says King Street Coffee’s last day in business will be Monday, July 29. Second Nature Coffee Co. is looking to open its doors almost immediately — sometime in the first week of August.
