Leesburg native appears in new movie with Matt Damon

Here’s a “wow” story for you — an actor who originally hails from Leesburg is co-starring in a new movie alongside Hollywood heavyweights Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.

The movie is called “The Instigators” and came out earlier this month on Apple TV.

Scout Backus appears in the film in the role of “Colani.” You can see Backus here in this screen grab from “The Instigators.”

We’re told Backus grew up in Leesburg and graduated from Loudoun County High School. Prior to this movie, one of their biggest roles was in the lead role of “Scout Finch” in a touring production of “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

According to the IMDb database, Backus also appeared in an episode of the HBO Max series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.”

Backus graduated from Shenandoah University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.

We’re also told Backus was a record-setting swimmer with the Greenway Gators swim team in Leesburg.
