A new doughnut shop is in the works for a shopping center in Loudoun County. And while it has a new name, you may be familiar with its predecessor.
We’re talking about Doughlab, a new retail shop coming to the Cascades Overlook center in Sterling. It’s taking the 800 s.f. space that was vacated by Abbott’s Frozen Custard when that shop closed late last year.
Doughlab is the new name of a doughnut maker that used to go by the name B. Doughnut. They used to have a shop in downtown Leesburg that closed in 2019 when the transitioned to a doughnut delivery model.
They also briefly had a small space at One Loudoun selling their sweet treats.
As in the past, the new Doughlab shop in Sterling will reportedly specialize in malasadas, which are a type of doughnut that is rolled in sugar and usually filled with some sort of fruit or cream filling. They are sometimes called Hawaiian doughnuts.
They will also have a savory malasada filled with whipped cream cheese, rolled in everything bagel seasoning, and topped with bacon or chives.
Construction on the space — which sits in between the Choolah Indian restaurant and Burton’s Grill & Bar — is underway, and right now, the Doughlab team is aiming for September opening.
