Big changes at Loudoun’s Lost Creek Winery

Some major changes are afoot in the local wine scene in Loudoun County. One winery is moving its operations, another new winery is on its way in, and a well known vineyard property has been sold in a multi-million dollar deal.

The changes involve the Vineyards & Winery at Lost Creek, which has been located on Spinks Ferry Road north of Leesburg since 2012. That’s when Aimee and Todd Henkle bought it.

The 50+ acre property includes the vineyards, a production and tasting facility and a residence.

Now, the Henkles have sold it for $3.6 million dollars in a deal brokered by agents from Washington Fine Properties.

“This notable sale stands as the most significant farm/vineyard sale and the fourth largest residential transaction in Loudoun County in 2024 year to date,” read the announcement of the sale.

The buyers — Ashley and Mark Witt — reportedly plan to launch their own vineyard which will be called Not Just N.E. Farm Vineyard.

Meanwhile, just because they sold their mega-property doesn’t mean the Henkles are done with the wine business.

They have acquired a 25-acre vineyard in Bluemont and will move their production facilities there.

As for tastings room — their longtime tasting room in the Lucketts area has been sold as well. It’s now closed and wine tastings have moved to Lost Creek’s sister venue —  the popular Echelon Wine Bar located on South King Street in downtown Leesburg.

“Farewell (for now) from our Lost Creek Crew,” the Henkles wrote on social media. “It is bittersweet after 12 years of enjoying over 120,000 visitors to our Lucketts tasting room that we close this chapter of Lost Creek and start our journey to take our wines to the next level.”
