Rivian — the upstart electric vehicle company out of California — is planning a new facility in Northern Virginia.
The company is working on a service center for its SUVs and trucks at 42734 Trade West Drive off Arcola Boulevard south of Brambleton in Loudoun County.
That’s according to documents filed with the county that go on to say they intend to take roughly 42,000 s.f. of space in an existing warehouse facility.
According to the company’s website, there are no Rivian centers currently in Northern Virginia, so this could be the first one.
We’re told by local Rivian drivers that rumors had circulated that a service center was being considered for Fairfax County. No word if a second location there is in the works.
Currently, the closest locations are in Gaithersburg, Maryland and in Richmond — both long hauls for local drivers.
Rivian was founded in 2009 and produces an electric pick-up truck as well as an SUV, with several more SUV models in the works.
The company also makes delivery vans for Amazon.
