Washington Post critic: Himalayan Wild Yak one of the best

The Burn doesn’t know whether to be proud or offended.

We’re pleased that Tom Sietsema, the food critic at the Washington Post, singled out Ashburn’s Himalayan Wild Yak restaurant as one of the “40 Best Restaurants In and Around DC” in his annual Fall Dining Guide. Congrats to the restaurant’s team on the honor.

However, the fact that no other local restaurant in Ashburn, Sterling, Leesburg, Purcellville, Chantilly, Herndon, or Reston made the cut stings a bit. We’ve got many more great restaurants out here in the NoVa boonies.

“The steamed dumplings show up as eight supple wonders on the rim of a bowl of garlicky tomato sauce. Their skins are so thin, you can see the outline of their juicy fillings,” Sietsema writes about Himalayan Wild Yak. “Try the signature yak, finely ground and deftly seasoned with coriander, cumin and garam masala.”

The Yak opened to strong reviews back in late 2021 in the Brambleton Town Center. It’s menu features traditional Nepalese dishes such as its much-loved momos, as well as dishes inspired by Indian cuisine.

It’s also known for Rocky — the large stuffed yak that greets visitors in the restaurant’s lobby.

Sietsema broke some news in his review of the Yak — apparently the owners are planning to open a second Himalayan Wild Yak location in Arlington soon.
