Plans to turn Herndon Kohl’s store into a supermarket moving forward

The plans to to turn the the Kohl’s department store in Herndon into a Lidl discount grocery store are making progress — but its not clear everyone knows.

The store is located at 2100 Centreville Road.

At this juncture, we can report that the architectural plans are drawn up for the new Lidl — showing that the huge Kohl’s space will be divided into at least three separate units. Lidl will take the middle unit.

Meanwhile, the building permit applications have been submitted to the Fairfax County system and are currently “in review.”

We say that it’s not clear everyone knows because we recently spoke with a sales associate at the store who told us that the plans for the Lidl were just an “online rumor” and that the store wasn’t closing. But based on earlier media reports and the documents we’ve seen, we don’t believe that is accurate.

When The Burn spoke to a Kohl’s store manager yesterday (Tuesday) about when they would close to begin the transition to Lidl, we were told that the closing date had not been announced yet.
