FIFA (the world governing body for soccer and futsal) recognizes futsal as the fastest growing indoor sport in the world. This 5-versus-5 game is best described as indoor soccer on a basketball court with a ball that doesn’t bounce.
Created in South America in the 1930s, futsal is a fast-paced game that combines technical skills, creativity and fast decision making. Futsal has been at the forefront of player development for soccer players for decades, and many of the top soccer players in the history of the sport attribute their soccer ability and creativity to playing futsal.
The St. James and National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) have partnered for several years to provide one of the DMV’s top futsal leagues and will now expand its Futsal Academy into Loudoun, providing interested players the opportunity to improve their skills and learn how to play the game of futsal without leaving their current club team.
The St. James Futsal Academy (STJFA) has consistently been a top performing futsal program locally, regionally and nationally, with many teams qualifying for the US Futsal National Finals and sending a number of players to the US Futsal Youth National Teams.
“Through the partnership between NCSL, Nike and The St. James we are excited to bring futsal into Loudoun County and provide the first highly organized and competitive futsal league to the area,” said The St. James’ Adam Baumgardner.
The St. James Futsal Academy and League will be directed locally by Chris Pruden, who has many years of futsal program experience and is one of the top travel soccer coaches in Loudoun.
