New upscale Chinese restaurant planned for Reston Town Center

An upscale Chinese restaurant specializing in noodle dishes, buns, dumplings, and more is planning a new location at the still under construction Reston Town Center Next — or RTC Next — development.

It’s called Yunnan by Potomac and the burgeoning brand already has one location in Alexandria. They also have a second location about to open in Pentagon City.

The Burn has learned that Yunnan is taking a roughly 4,300 s.f. space in the RTC Next project. The restaurant is the latest tenant named for the center.

As we recently reported, this is the same development where the new AC Hotel and Residence Inn by Marriott are preparing to open with a new restaurant called SEVEN and a rooftop lounged called SYN.

There is also a new doggie daycare facility opening there as well.

Yunnan’s claim to fame is its focus on the cuisine of southwest China — what it calls “not your typical Chinese food.”

“The soul food of Yunnan is mixian — a slippery, light and almost fluffy rice noodle — which is prepared with braised meats, rich broths and sweet, savory and spicy sauces,” the website reads.

The menu at Yunnan includes small plates, bao buns, steamed dumplings, “night market-style” barbecue, and mixian noodle bowls.

There is also an intriguing lineup of sweets including Winter Melon Cheesecake and Bacon Egg Yolk Donuts. You can check out the full Yunnan by Potomac menu here.

The team at Yunnan says if their timeline goes smoothly, they are targeting an opening in the first quarter of 2026.
