Sad news for fans of the amazing Cuban food at Cubasi Bistro. The restaurant’s planned move to an Ashburn shopping center isn’t happening now.
Cubasi first opened in the Dulles 28 Centre in Sterling back in 2019. It was an immediate hit for its large portions and authentic tasting Cuban food — a rarity in the region.
But Covid and other issues took their toll, and Cubasi left its original spot earlier this year.
At the time, the restaurant’s owners announced plans to move to the Moorefield Village shopping center.
That’s the center with the vacant Harris Teeter store near the intersection of Ryan Road and Loudoun County Parkway in Ashburn.
Now, nearly a year after that announcement, The Burn has learned the deal to open there is off.
We spoke to the owner of Cubasi Bistro, and while he didn’t offer details on the change in plans, he did say he still hopes to reopen his restaurant somewhere in the area.
Meanwhile, a new restaurant called Sushi Cho is expected to take the former Cubasi spot at the Dulles 28 Centre. No word yet on who might take the vacant spot at Moorefield.
