It looks like the days are numbered for the Kohl’s department store in Herndon. A member of the Kohl’s team at the store told us it was scheduled to close on January 18.
As regular readers know, the store — located at 2100 Centreville Road — is slated to be divided into three separate retail spaces.
It has been announced that one of the spaces will become a new Lidl discount grocery store. No tenants have been announced for the other two spots. You can see our previous Kohl’s/Lidl coverage here.
There are at least 16 Lidl stores in greater NoVa, but for some reason Herndon and Reston don’t have any, per the company’s website.
Loudoun County just to the west has three Lidl locations with at least two more in the long term plans.
Lidl (rhymes with needle) is a German-based international grocer that started moving aggressively into the eastern United States a few years back.
They are a direct competitor to the ALDI discount supermarket brand, which also has its roots in Germany.
We asked about store closing sales at Kohl’s prior to January 18, but the associate we spoke with didn’t have any information about that yet.
