Well, we now know what new business will be taking over the spot recently vacated by the Sakura Japanese Steakhouse in Leesburg. But sorry foodies — it’s not a new restaurant.
Sakura closed back in October, leaving the roughly 5,000 s.f. unit in the Fort Evans Plaza II shopping center vacant.
That’s the same shopping center with the recently opened Trader Joe’s grocery store and the upcoming Crunch Fitness gym.
Now, The Burn has learned that former Sakura spot will become the latest outpost of a national emergency veterinary clinic chain.
Veterinary Emergency Group — sometimems known by its initials VEG — is taking the vacant unit. There are VEG centers in 28 states plus DC, according to its website. Here in NoVa, there are locations in Alexandria and Falls Church.

“We’re ready 24/7 to immediately triage and treat all kinds of pets. From accident wounds to vomiting to complex surgeries, you’ll see healing-focused heroics up close,” the website reads.
The type of pets VEG sees is extensive — including chinchillas, rabbits, ducks, chickens, canaries, pythons, tortoises, and bearded dragons. Plus cats and dogs, of course.
No word yet on when the new VEG location will open in Leesburg.
