Popular Sunoco/7-Eleven store in Ashburn closing permanently

Shocking news for neighbors in and around the Broadlands neighborhood in Ashburn — a longtime gas station and convenience store is closing its doors.

We’re talking about the Sunoco gas station and 7-Eleven c-store on Truro Parish Drive. An employee tells us tomorrow — Tuesday, December 3 — will be its last day open.

And there’s not much left either. Most of the shelves are empty, the coolers mostly bare except for some sodas and other beverages.

Outside, the gas pumps are all shut down, the nozzles covered with plastic bags.

Property records show the mini mart was built in 2001. It’s been a staple for the community ever since it opened. Students from nearby Eagle Ridge Middle School made the store a regular stop on their way home each afternoon.

For years, it was one of the few gas stations in the Broadlands area. More recently, a Royal Farm opened in the neighborhood and a gas station was added at a local Harris Teeter store as well.

There’s no official word what is happening next — what will be done with the property.

It also comes at a strange time for the small retail center where the gas station is located. In just the past few weeks, two restaurants in the center have closed as well.

As The Burn has been reporting — Good Fortune, a Chinese restaurant, announced its closure. And Neighbors Sports Bar & Grill appears to have closed as well, although no official announcement has been made.
