Huge Capital Art and Craft Festival returns to Northern Virginia

With a degree in theoretical nuclear physics, Bob Friedenberg may not be your typical artist. But he’s used that love of precision and detail to create amazing drawings for five decades.

“I’m going for something that keeps you engaged, that … entices you to discover new things you didn’t know were in the drawing all the time,” Friedenberg said. “My signature style is to embed tiny doodles and physics equations in many of my pictures.”

Friedenberg is just one of more than 300 juried artists and artisans who will be participating in the upcoming Winter Capital Art and Craft Festival. Billed as the largest art festival in the region, the CACF, as it’s known, will be held at the Dulles Expo Center on December 13, 14, and 15.

Just in time for holiday shopping, festival-goers will find pieces created using more than a dozen different mediums including glass, jewelry, leather, paintings, prints, photography, pottery, wood, and even wearable art.

The artists and artisans will be on hand to discuss their works and answer questions for shoppers who will have ample opportunity to find unique, one-of-a-kind gifts.

The CACF is a juried art show — something that has elevated the quality of the works available.

“There were other art and craft shows in … previous years, and the CACF has upped the game with the quality of artists they get,” Friedenberg said. “If you haven’t been to an art and craft show at the Dulles Expo for a few years, then you should definitely give it a fresh look.”
