Temporary signage has gone up at the newest location for Roggenart Bakery, Bistro & Cafe. The European-style eatery is setting up shop in Reston.
Roggenart — which means “the art of rye” in German — is opening its latest location in the RTC West center off Sunset Hills Road.
That’s the same center with the Cooper’s Hawk restaurant, the Tiki Thai restaurant, the Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, and the Kook Dogg Cafe.
The bakery cafe is taking a spot that was previously occupied by a Starbucks.
Roggenart is a Maryland-based brand that is starting to branch out. They’ve got six cafes in Maryland, one in Arlington, and one in Chicago. Now, Reston will soon be on the list.
“For us, creating doughs and food with the simplest ingredients like flour, water and yeast is magic, art and passion,” reads the Roggenart website. “We offer fresh food made from scratch and made to order. We bake in small batches throughout the day and brew great coffee.”
The menu at Roggenart includes breakfast sandwiches, both sweet and savory pastries, artisan sandwiches, quiches, salads, desserts, and more.
The Frosted Schnecke jumped out at us — described as a sticky bun meets a croissant, made with croissant dough, dulce de leche, walnuts, and topped with icing.

There’s also the One of a Kind Roast Beef, a cast-iron pressed sandwich made with roast beef layered with cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, mushrooms and red peppers and topped with a homemade chipotle aioli sauce.

You can browse the menu at the brand’s Arlington location via their online store here.
The news of Roggenart’s Reston plans was first reported by our friends over at the FFXNow website. No specific opening date has been released yet — just that they are targeting sometime in 2025.
