The magical “elves” were back at it at IHOP this week — when one lucky server received the tip of a lifetime.
For the past few years, The Burn has happily covered what has become an annual tradition in Ashburn. Local real estate agent Tanya Johnson gathers with a group of friends and colleagues for a holiday breakfast.
But there’s a catch — each guest is asked to bring a single $100 bill with them. They all enjoy their IHOP breakfasts of omelets and pancakes and so forth.
Then, when it comes time to pay the bill, the each leave $100. Whatever is left after the bill is covered is a hefty tip for the server.
This year the group left $1,200 for their waitress.
“Some incredible women in our community joined our Tanya & Co. team for our annual $100 breakfast at IHOP,” Johnson posted on social media. “The joy, gratitude, and pure surprise on her face was everything.”
And this holiday tradition isn’t unique to Ashburn. A search online finds other business gatherings, social clubs, and groups of friends around the country doing similar breakfasts and lunches and leaving whopping tips.
Indeed, in her post, Johnson encouraged others to do the same thing — gather with friends and make some hard working restaurant employee’s day.
