With little fanfare, the local dessert brand Rice Culture has opened a new location inside the Tysons Corner Center mall. It’s located in a kiosk at the food court on Level 3.
In a post on social media, the Rice Culture team says they had an opportunity for a short-term lease in the mall as a way to test out how their brand does in that shopping environment.
They also said that it’s much less expensive to open a kiosk versus a full brick-and-mortar storefront in a shopping center.
They will test out this location and — depending on how it goes — may sign a longer term lease and/or pursue other mall locations.
In the meantime, Rice Culture still has its original location in Vienna, and — as The Burn has been reporting — a second location is under construction in Chantilly. That spot is expected to open early in 2025.
Rice Culture is a sweet shop that specializes taiyakis, a Japanese street food that is basically a fish shaped waffle stuffed with either a sweet or savory filling.
This includes flavors such as vanilla custard, Nutella, or bacon jalapeño. They also usually carry soft serve ice cream.
