A happy coda to a story we told you about last week. A local dog was able to visit with the fire and rescue team that pulled him from an icy reservoir.

Back on Sunday, January 12, Kona — who lives in Ashburn with his family — was going for a walk along the Beaverdam Reservoir off Belmont Ridge Road.
Suddenly, a goose went zipping across Kona’s path, and the dog took off after it — out onto the ice along the shore of the reservoir — before falling into the water.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and using a ladder and ropes, the team from Loudoun County Fire & Rescue Engine 623 were able to rescue the pooch.
This past Saturday, a now fully-recovered Kona, along with her family, stopped by the fire station to thank the crew from Engine 623 and everyone was happy to see him.

The response to the story of Kona’s rescue — which made a big splash on social media and local news — surprised owner Alison Mooney.
“I can’t believe the outpouring of love on my dog, but I can understand the outpouring of love for fire and rescue,” she said, adding that Kona was “ready to join the (fire and rescue) team.”
