According to Reuters, the Russian news agency TASS is reporting that Inna Volyanskaya, a former pairs skater with the Soviet Union’s national team, was among the victims aboard American Airlines Flight 5342. The jet plane crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan International Airport Wednesday evening.
Volyanskay was a skating coach at the Ashburn Ice House near the corner of Waxpool Road and Smith Switch Road in Ashburn.
“After competing for many years, Inna was chosen for the leading role in Tatiana Tarasova’s ice theater known as “Russian All-Stars” performing all around the world,” her bio reads on the Ashburn Ice House website.

“Later Inna was chosen to skate as Princess Aurora in ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ Cinderella in in the ice show ‘Cinderella,’ Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and Ariel in Disney on Ice’s ‘The Little Mermaid.’ In 2002, Inna began her coaching career and coach’s beginner to senior level skaters.”

U.S. Figure Skating has announced that a number of skaters, coaches, and their family members were on board Flight 5342, returning from a national skating competition and subsequent skating camp in Wichita, Kansas, where the flight originated.
