Fire destroys historic barn at Cox Farms in Centreville

Some sad news coming from the folks at Cox Farms in Centreville this morning. A historic barn on the property caught fire and burned down overnight.

Cox Farms is a popular attraction in Northern Virginia, offering a petting zoo, a produce and flower market, a corn maze, slides, and other family-friendly activities in season.

“Our beloved barn burned down this morning. The farm caretaker, Sam, was already up and called it in quickly, and we are thankful for the strong and skilled response of both Loudoun and Fairfax Fire departments,” a post on social media read.

“Because of their efforts, the blaze was contained and the damage was limited to the barn itself. We lost about a dozen chickens, a tractor, and, of course, one of our most popular slides, along with the iconic sunflower and other art that decorated the barn. Fortunately, everyone’s favorite mama pig – Leona – only lives at the barn during the fall season, so she was not impacted.”

Long before Cox Farms moved to the property in 1979, the barn was long a working dairy barn built roughly 100 years ago.

“Our landscape won’t be the same without it,” the message from the Cox Farm team read.
