Joann Fabric and Crafts, the national fabric and crafting brand, has announced that it is closing 500 of its stores. The list of closures includes every Northern Virginia store except for one.
According to a list published by USA Today, Joann will close its local stores in Falls Church, Fairfax, Woodbridge, and Warrenton.
The only surviving store is the Joann Fabric in Sterling, located at the Sugarland Crossing shopping center on Route 7.
(Depending on your definition of Northern Virginia, the Joann store in Winchester also appears to have been spared.)
There are currently roughly 850 Joann stores. Closing 500 will reduce the footprint of the brand by more than half. The move comes after Joann filed for bankruptcy a second time last month.
“A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time,” a statement from Joann read.
No word on when the stores will begin closing, but historically, these types of moves usually happen quickly.
