One Ashburn resident is enjoying some newfound wealth today. Jennifer Ivey recently bought a ticket at a convenience in the area and it turned out to be a big winner.
Ivey bought the lucky scratcher at the 7-Eleven on Pleasant Valley Road in Chantilly. It was a “100X the Money” ticket and when she took it home and played the ticket, it revealed she had won the game’s top prize — a whopping $5,000,000.
“It feels amazing. It really does,” she said, according to a press release from the Virginia Lottery. “I just kind of stared at it because I couldn’t believe it.”
Ivey chose to take the one-time cash option which netted her $3,125,000 before taxes. Had she chosen to take the full $5 million, it would have been paid out in annual payments over 30 years.
The 7-Eleven store will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
According to the Lottery, there were three top prizes in the 100X the Money game and two have been claimed, so one more is out there. Odds of winning the $5 million — 1 in 2,652,000.
