We don’t always write about new products being launched by chain brands — there are probably dozens every week. But every once in a while one piques our interest.
Sweetgreen’s new Ripple Fries are one such item. The brand — known for its salads and grain bowls — introduced them earlier this month.
Billed as “freshly cut potatoes, air-fried in avocado oil and seasoned with sea salt and herbs,” they sound like the holy grail of junk food — the “healthy” French fry.
The Ripple Fries reportedly have fewer calories than McDonald’s French fries, for example, and about half the fat.
Nationwide, critics have been generally positive about the new Ripple Fries.
“The fries aren’t too thin or too thick, allowing for a perfect crunch-to-fluff ratio,” wrote a reviewer with TastingTable.com.
“The crispy potatoes had the perfect amount of seasoning and the freshness shined through,” wrote Axios.com.
The new fries come with two new dipping sauce offerings — pickle ketchup and garlic aioli.

Being dedicated to serving our readers, The Burn conducted its own taste test of Ripple Fries and gives them a solid thumbs up. Our weren’t very crispy, but the flavor was still quite good.
We preferred the savory garlic aioli sauce — but the pickle ketchup had a zing to it that made it a lot better than regular ketchup.
Sweetgreen, which was founded in the DC market, has more than a dozen locations in the District and Northern Virginia, including one at One Loudoun in Ashburn, and another one is opening at Fairfax Corner next week.
