Construction underway at Loudoun’s Caramella Cafe

Well, we have some good news and some bad news. The Burn has confirmed that work is underway on a new restaurant coming to Loudoun – but the bad news is, we still don’t know much about it.

Loyal readers may recall that back in January we broke the news about a new tenant taking over the former Cheng’s Oriental Restaurant space in Sterling. That’s at the Parc City Center off of Route 7.

The new tenant is reportedly called Caramella Cafe (some sources say Caramella Restaurant).

We stopped by and peeked inside and there were construction workers in there and work was definitely underway. The place had been stripped of all traces of the former Cheng’s and work was underway on the new layout for Caramella.

For readers with a nostalgic bent, there was still a faded Cheng’s sign by the front door and the glass transom over the door also still reads Cheng’s, but they won’t be there for much longer.

We’ve reached out to people reportedly involved in the project about their plans, but haven’t gotten any response.

Caramella is an Italian word meaning “candy” and we are picking up on some clues that Italian may be the cuisine that will be offered. Paperwork for the restaurant filed with the county mentions a pizza oven.

We’ll keep chasing more information about the future Caramella Cafe, so stay tuned.
