Thursday afternoon, many residents in Northern Virginia were bombarded with weather alerts on their phones and television sets. A big storm front moved across much of the region.
The picture here shows what the view was like from one vantage point in Ashburn.

He tells us it’s actually 28 separate photos shot at 35 mm and photomerged using Lightroom software.
The storm knocked down trees and branches across the region, took out utility lines, and left many neighborhoods without power.
Wind speeds of more than 60 miles per hour were recorded at Dulles International Airport.
