Historic Ashburn Mill renovated, looking for new tenant

The historic Ashburn Mill has sat in the heart of the Old Ashburn neighborhood for more than a century — dating to the early 1900s. Now, the mill has been renovated and refurbished and the new owner – Jordan O’Neill – is looking for the right tenant to move in.

The Burn recently took a tour of the space and we can tell you – it is dramatically different from the last time we walked through the mill several years ago.

Once, a slew of interior walls and faux ceilings broke up the building into multiple small spaces. O’Neill has had those partitions removed to create huge open spaces.

Meanwhile, barrel after barrel of paint have given all the walls a fresh appearance. And outside a protective coating has been applied to the metal roof of the mill giving it a cheery red color.

While most of the original wooden walls, floors, and beams have been maintained, fresh flooring and boards have been added where needed to repair damage.

Various items, including the historic Ashburn Mill scale has been preserved and remain on-site. There is also some original machinery – large wheels and gears – high up in the mill’s cupola and the renovation opened up a view 38-feet upwards to this peak.

All total, the mill building has roughly 9,600 s.f. of space. There is also a separate garage building with another 2,500 s.f. Finally, there is surface parking for 70 vehicles.

O’Neill says the type of tenant (or tenants) that could move into a space like this remains to be determined.

While surrounding neighbors might like a restaurant or a brewery/tap room, it could also be a prime spot for a landscaper, a dog boarding facility, a plumbing company, or something else.

Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted on whatever comes next for the historic Ashburn Mill.
