Herndon area residents will soon have a new place to shop for their grocery. Growing supermarket brand Lidl has announced the opening date for its new store in town.
The big day will be Wednesday, October 29. As the sun comes up that morning, there will be hot coffee and fresh baked croissants. The official ribbon cutting is scheduled for 7:40 a.m.
As The Burn has been reporting, the new Lidl (rhymes with needle) can be found at 2110 Centreville Road.
That spot is the former Kohls department store building. After Kohls left, the building was divided into three separate units.
Lidl is the first to open, located in the center space. The other two spaces will be filled by Hobby Lobby and Planet Fitness, which are still under construction.
Lidl is a discount grocer based in Germany. The company started moving aggressively into the United States several years ago.
The brand is known for its in-house bakery with fresh baked breads, pastries, and pretzels, as well as a row in the middle of the store that features a seemingly random selection of household items, gadgets, fitness gear, and more.
