Reston ceramic artist participates for first time at Capital Art & Craft Festival

When the Capital Arts and Craft Festival opens October 10 at Dulles Expo Center, there will be one Reston-based artist making her debut at this largest indoor art festival in the region.

Ceramic artist Laurie Baron will be among 225 artisans from throughout the country at the three-day event.  Baron is an experienced potter whose journey began in 2008 at a studio in Washington, DC.

She explains that she has a deep passion for the tactile beauty of clay. She has developed a distinctive carving style which blends traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics.

“My work is largely characterized by intricate hand-carved patterns on functional forms, creating pieces that are both functional and sculpturally engaging,” she said. “I feel that each work reflects a commitment to quality and a deep understanding of the material.”

Beyond her own studio, Laurie is dedicated to sharing the art of pottery with others. She has taught pottery classes in order to foster a new generation of ceramic artists and enthusiasts.

“I am a recovering interior designer and corporate real estate professional who has embraced pottery as my creative outlet,” she said.
