Opening day for a new bakery and restaurant specializing in the slavic treat known as kolaches is getting closer – and now the sign has gone up over its Loudoun County storefront.
American Kolache – a brand based in St. Louis where it is known as St. Louis Kolache – is opening its first Virginia location in Ashburn at the Cameron Chase Village Center. That’s the small shopping center next door to the Ashburn Ice House.
The Burn first broke the news about the local plans for American Kolache back in May. Now fast forward five months and the shop is just a month out from opening.
Construction on the 1,400 s.f. space is nearing completion and the restaurant’s team is looking at a mid-November opening is all goes smoothly.
“We are proud to be the first family-owned kolache bakery in Northern Virginia, introducing this comforting tradition to our community and baking each batch fresh every morning right here in Ashburn,” owners Jing and Alex Stimpson said in a statement.

If you’re new to the world of kolaches, they are described as a yeast dough bun filled with savory or sweet fillings. They originated in slavic countries like the Czech Republic and Slovakia and today are popular in many communities around the U.S., including St. Louis and much of Texas.
The menu at American Kolache includes breakfast kolaches featuring eggs, sausage, ham, cheese, gravy, and other ingredients.

There are lunch style kolaches too such as the Mac & Cheese & Bacon and the Sloppy Joe. And, of course, there are sweet kolaches including Apple Pie, Double Chocolate Brownie, and Raspberry Cream Cheese.
You can see the full kolache lineup below.
American Kolache if focused on those two dayparts – breakfast and lunch – and will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
