Tony Davis and his wife, Brittany, are part of the team behind the growing Bkd Bagels brand in Loudoun County. The bagel shop and restaurant recently opened its fourth location.
Now, the Davis’s – along with their 7-year-old daughter Ellie Reese – are branching out in a new direction. They’ve created a charming cookbook and baking kit made for kids to experience with their family.

It’s called “You’re Invited: Cooking with Color Adventure” and the kit not only features a cookbook, but also a cute child-sized apron, and a set of color-coded measuring cups and spoons.
The idea is that kids can read the cookbook, choose a recipe, and then easily measure out and mix the ingredients following the easy instructions and using the colored cups and spoons as a visual guide.
Tony and Brittany came up with the idea back in 2022 when Ellie Reese wanted to help out during family meal preparations.
“We love to cook together, and we wanted to have her more involved in the process and be able to teach her in a way that she could understand,” Tony said. “I went on Amazon and I couldn’t find anything. There was nothing like color-coded measuring cups with recipes for kids.”

So, Brittany sat down and wrote the story. The couple found an artist they loved and worked with her to create the illustrations. And Tony worked on the kit design and sourced the needed materials.
And, of course, there were the recipes.
“There was a lot of trial and error,” Tony said. “We kept changing things and tweaking things to make the recipes our own – but keeping simplicity at the forefront for kids.”

Fast forward to this month, and the Davis’s have taken their “You’re Invited” website live where folks can learn more about the cookbook and kit and order one for a would-be child chef in their life.
Online shoppers can opt to have it delivered, or choose to pick it up at any of the four Bkd Bagel shops (two in Leesburg, one in Purcellville, and one in Ashburn). Plus it’s also stocked at Mon Chouchou, an upscale baby and children’s clothing store in downtown Leesburg.
Tony Davis say they wanted to get “You’re Invited: Cooking with Color Adventure” out in time for the holidays, calling it the perfect gift for kids.
“This is every grandparent’s dream,” he said with a laugh.
