Huge new pickleball venue in the works for Loudoun

Good news for pickleball players in Loudoun County. A large new pickleball venue will add additional much-needed courts for the sport that continues to boom in popularity.

Willard Retail has announced they have signed a deal to open Northern Virginia’s first location of The Picklr in Sterling.

It will be going into the Cascades Marketplace shopping center at the intersection of Cascades Parkway and Palisade Parkway.

The Picklr will take the vacant 30,000 s.f. space where the Marshalls department store used to be. That store moved to a new location in 2023.

For local pickleballers who are wondering just how large that space is – the huge Village Pickle in Leesburg is only about 24,000 s.f. – 6,000 s.f. smaller.

The Picklr is a national chain of pickleball facilities with locations open or in the works in 30 states across the country, according to the website.

Here in Virginia, there are two locations for The Picklr – in Fredericksburg and Williamsburg. The upcoming Sterling location is the first one announced for Northern Virginia proper.

The signing of The Picklr is another huge “get” for Cascades Marketplace.

The shopping center is already home to a slew of new tenants with more coming soon – including Taco Bamba, Brasserie Royale, CHIKO, Paris Baguette, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, Activate, Lil’ Cakes & Creamery, Shake Shack, Inju Korean BBQ, and a Wonder multi-brand restaurant.

It’s too soon to predict when The Picklr will open in Sterling, but we’ll keep an eye on it for you, so stay tuned.
