Loudoun’s Mex-Mart adding butcher shop with a fun name

Back in 2022, a tiny Mexican restaurant and grocery store called Mex-Mart opened in off of Route 50 in southern Loudoun County. It quickly grew a loyal following.

Now, Mex-Mart is getting ready to embark on an interesting expansion.

The Mex-Mart team will be adding a butcher shop to their offerings. It’s going into the space immediately next door at the Gum Spring Village Center shopping plaza.

And the best part is its name. It will be called the Mex-Meat Butcher Shop.

There’s an interesting back story here. Originally, two doors down there was a Korean BBQ restaurant called The Qui. The Qui had been planning on opening its own butcher shop in the center space between their restaurant and the Mex-Mart.

The details are murky, but something happened between the landlord and the owners of The Qui and the BBQ restaurant closed down suddenly. The space has been vacant ever since.

Apparently, the Mex-Mart folks liked the idea of a butcher shop next door, so now they are opening Mex-Meat.

We’re told they could open the new shop as soon as this week.
